Kara Slife is a 20-year industry veteran and consultant whose experience includes a vast knowledge of fine-dining etiquette, food, wine, spirits and the makings of a successful bar and restaurant. She is passionate about providing an unforgettable guest experience in an upscale, quality atmosphere through her role as Beverage Director of The Annie.
Kara’s career accomplishments are numerous and varied and include bar and front of house management, craft-cocktail development and guiding guests through food, wine, and cocktail offerings for several restaurants, including Weights + Measures in Houston.
Prior to moving to Texas, Kara began her extensive hospitality background in Southern California. In 2004, she founded Slife Public Relations, a boutique PR consulting firm working with top restaurants, chefs and tastemakers. Kara oversaw and developed creative and comprehensive campaigns that reached and influenced the clients’ respective target audiences and secured placements in top publications. Before forming her own company, Kara was executive director of the Restaurant Division of Wagstaff Worldwide, Inc. in Los Angeles. She joined Mary Wagstaff shortly after the company’s inception in 1999 while still a culinary arts student at Le Cordon Bleu. During her tenure, Kara was instrumental in growing the company to over 25 employees in three cities and establishing its then reputation as one of the leading restaurant PR firms in the country.
Kara’s former clients have been nominated for awards such as the James Beard Award “Rising Star Chefs” as well as Food & Wine Magazine’s “Best New Chefs” and she secured features in several outlets, including Food & Wine, Bon Appétit, Gourmet, Newsweek, The New York Times, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, Elle, InStyle, Time, Esquire and People along with appearances on the Today Show, Oprah, Ellen, Extra, Entertainment Tonight and more.
A member of the James Beard Foundation and the American Institute of Wine & Food, Kara has been quoted and featured in several industry publications, such as Restaurant Hospitality, Santé, Food Arts and StarChefs’ Rising Stars.
